Collision Damage Warranty (CDW)

The CDW rental car and car share insurance offered by Bonzah covers up to $35,000 for rental car or car share vehicle damage due to a collision with another vehicle. Renters or car share users will be reimbursed up to the maximum benefit, less a $1,000 deductible for an accident with another vehicle.

• Primary car share and rental car collision coverage.
• Coverage is available in all U.S. states. Coverage NOT available for rentals or car shares originating in New York, Michigan, or Pennsylvania. Coverage NOT available in Canada.

Not Covered:

• Vehicles used for rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc.), delivery, courier services (UberEats, GrubHub, Postmates, etc.), and other “transportation networks”.
• Vehicle theft.
• Single-car accidents involving only the rental or car share vehicle.
• War, insurrection, confiscation or seizure, nuclear events, illegal acts, misrepresentation, intoxicated persons, intentional damage, wear and tear, or mechanical issues.
• Non-rental or car share vehicle damages due to liability by the renter or car share user.
• Medical expenses, PIP (Personal Injury Protection), UM (Uninsured Motorist), and UIM (Underinsured Motorist).

• Valid for drivers with a domestic or international driver’s license or international driver’s permit (available in English).
• Coverage is based on 24-hour increments. Insurance begins at the rental or car share pickup time as specified in the rental car or car share agreement. If the rental or car share agreement doesn’t specify a start time, insurance starts at the scheduled pickup time for the reservation as designated on the rental car or car share agreement. In the absence of a rental or car share pickup time or start time, insurance begins at the purchase time.

Renter’s Contingent Liability Insurance (RCLI) – State Minimum Primary Liability

Bonzah offers the Renter’s Contingent Liability Insurance (RCLI) policy, which provides primary liability coverage that meets the state minimum requirements for rental and car share vehicles across the United States (coverage varies by state).

• Primary rental car liability insurance that covers state minimum requirements.
• Coverage is available in all U.S. states and rentals and car share extending into Canada, but not available for rentals or car share originating in New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Canada.

• Bodily Injury – Per Person: $30,000

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)

The SLI policy offered by Bonzah must be purchased with RCLI and provides additional coverage beyond the state minimum for liability and property damage:

• Secondary rental or car share vehicle liability insurance that provides excess coverage.
• Coverage is available in all U.S. states and rentals or car shares extending into Canada, but not available for rentals or car shares originating in New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Canada.

Coverage Limit:

• $300,000 or $500,000 (depending on state) in Supplemental Liability Insurance per accident in aggregate (not in addition to state minimum).
• $100,000 per person per accident.
• $10,000 in additional property damage (this is in addition to the state minimum property damage limit).
• No deductible.

Excess Coverage:

• SLI is in excess of any other applicable insurance, including personal auto insurance or corporate auto insurance designed to provide coverage for individual renters/drivers.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

The PAI insurance offered by Bonzah covers up to $50,000 for the renter or car share user’s loss of life, $5,000 for passenger loss of life, and $1,000 for accidental medical expenses. The policy also provides coverage of up to $500 for personal effects (see policy for limitations). A $25 deductible will be applied for personal effects coverage.

Not rental car coverage.

Coverage is based on calendar day increments listed on the rental contract. If the rental car contract says the pick-up time is 1:00 PM, then the coverage starts at that time and is valid until 12:00 AM the day of pickup and is valid from 12:01 AM to 12:00 AM each additional day of coverage. LDW coverage ends at the earliest of the time the Rented Automobile is returned to the Rental Agency or midnight on the last day of the Rental Period.

Other Policy Information:

• Coverage duration is limited to trips up to a maximum of 30 days for CDW, RCLI, SLI, and PAI policies. For LDW policies, coverage duration is limited to trips up to a maximum of 31 days.
• Insurance coverage must be purchased before the rental period begins.
• Coverage must be purchased prior to the reservation pickup date and time.
• If the vehicle is picked up or driven before the insurance date and time, the coverage will be null and void. Please contact Bonzah for an immediate refund.

The Collision Damage Warranty (CDW) includes a deductible of up to $1,000 for claims. There is no deductible for Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) and liability coverage (RCLI and SLI) claims. For Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) claims, the deductible is up to $25.

Yes, but only vehicles with values up to $100,000 (vehicle exclusions apply).

Residents of any country can purchase Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI), provided the trip originates in the U.S. and may extend to Canada. Coverage excludes rentals or car shares originating in New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or Canada.

For CDW, RCLI, SLI, or PAI, any foreign driver’s license or international driver’s permit must be immediately available in English to be valid for coverage.

LDW is not eligible for use by any non-U.S. resident.

All eligible drivers are covered at no extra cost.

For CDW, RCLI, SLI, and PAI, an eligible driver must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license or international driver’s permit (available in English), and be listed on the original rental car or car share agreement and insurance agreement. To make a CDW, RCLI, SLI, or PAI claim, the RENTER will need to submit all relevant information using the form available here.

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) claims have unique requirements, so please refer to the specific instructions for LDW claims. The renter or car share user must file the claim.

Required information is listed below:

1. Signed car rental or car share agreement (copy) including rental start and end times. REQUIRED
2. Copy of the police report if another car is involved in an accident (details of other driver required on the police report). REQUIRED
3. Damage estimates for injuries to persons or damage to property. REQUIRED
4. Copy of a current auto insurance policy and/or copy of the credit card agreement used for rental or car share. (If applicable)
5. Take photos of the scene at the time of claim/accident/incident and have a description of the circumstances. REQUIRED.
6. Bonzah will pass on relevant information to our 3rd party adjuster.
7. The adjuster will approve or deny the claim and the amount.

The Bonzah claims process typically takes 3 to 5 weeks, depending on the severity and complexity of the claim. Providing complete and accurate information can help speed up the process.

Bonzah uses a third-party adjuster for claims because it provides the most transparency and fairness. The disadvantage is that Bonzah doesn’t control the process or outcomes of the claims process.

Yes, it could be. For CDW, RCLI, and SLI claims, the process is more efficient if the renter or car share user actively assists in the claims process. Renters must initiate all claims. The renter or car share user’s records should be readily available if anyone involved in the claims process needs them.
